Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 1.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 4.29% or 1.19 points to trade at 28.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 3.82% or 0.49 points to end at 13.32 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 3.34% or 0.44 points to 13.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which fell 5.70% or 0.66 points to trade at 10.92 at the close. Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) declined 4.29% or 0.24 points to end at 5.36 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was down 3.64% or 2.11 points to 55.81.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 216 to 151 and 38 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.01% to 30.07.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.30% or 3.70 to $1233.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.85% or 0.42 to hit $48.89 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 2.13% or 3.02 to trade at $145.02 .

USD/BRL was down 0.62% to 3.0720, while EUR/BRL fell 0.60% to 3.3001.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 100.14.
