Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.27% to hit a new 1-month low.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Hypermarcas SA (SA:HYPE3), which rose 1.38% or 0.44 points to trade at 32.44 at the close. Meanwhile, Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) added 0.98% or 0.61 points to end at 62.68 and Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) was up 0.48% or 0.33 points to 69.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which fell 8.18% or 1.43 points to trade at 16.05 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) declined 7.75% or 1.29 points to end at 15.35 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was down 7.59% or 0.68 points to 8.28.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 272 to 153 and 28 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.53% to 34.12.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 3.10 to $1282.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.94% or 1.10 to hit $55.66 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.36 to trade at $127.22 .

USD/BRL was up 1.02% to 3.3130, while EUR/BRL rose 2.11% to 3.9067.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 93.73.
