Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.20%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which rose 10.64% or 0.100 points to trade at 1.040 at the close. Meanwhile, Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) added 7.40% or 0.64 points to end at 9.29 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) was up 6.98% or 3.04 points to 46.59 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which fell 5.62% or 2.53 points to trade at 42.47 at the close. Colliers International Group Inc (TSX:CIGI) declined 3.02% or 2.77 points to end at 88.97 and Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) was down 2.90% or 1.44 points to 48.19.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 527 to 514 and 123 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.20% to 12.32.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.35 to $1330.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.30% or 0.16 to hit $53.10 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $62.09 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.7529, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6642.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 96.662.
