Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.71%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enercare Inc (TO:ECI), which rose 4.03% or 0.78 points to trade at 20.12 at the close. Meanwhile, Air Canada (TO:AC) added 2.13% or 0.480 points to end at 23.020 and Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO:GC) was up 2.02% or 0.59 points to 29.81 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD), which fell 8.27% or 0.32 points to trade at 3.55 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 8.09% or 0.390 points to end at 4.430 and MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) was down 7.19% or 0.45 points to 5.81.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 695 to 442 and 118 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.60% to 13.95.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.94 to $1280.84 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.52% or 1.43 to hit $55.33 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.20% or 1.39 to trade at $61.77 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7854, while CAD/EUR fell 1.07% to 0.6660.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 93.74.
