Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Foods&Drugs, Gas&Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 2.08%, while the SBF 120 index declined 2.08%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Danone SA (PA:DANO), which rose 1.21% or 0.94 points to trade at 78.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Sanofi SA (PA:SASY) added 0.04% or 0.03 points to end at 75.43 and Pernod Ricard SA (PA:PERP) was down 0.80% or 1.25 points to 154.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 7.82% or 0.976 points to trade at 11.500 at the close. TechnipFMC PLC (PA:FTI) declined 6.37% or 1.41 points to end at 20.73 and STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) was down 4.42% or 0.715 points to 15.475.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Danone SA (PA:DANO) which rose 1.21% to 78.80, Coface (PA:COFA) which was up 1.05% to settle at 10.57 and Covivio SA (PA:CVO) which gained 0.43% to close at 93.20.

The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which was down 7.82% to 11.500 in late trade, Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which lost 6.73% to settle at 2.438 and Faurecia (PA:EPED) which was down 6.65% to 35.91 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 425 to 129 and 95 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 25.70% to 21.70 a new 6-months high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.32% or 19.95 to $1534.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 5.34% or 3.05 to hit $54.05 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 4.83% or 2.96 to trade at $58.34 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.22% to 1.1144, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.9242.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 97.787.
